 | While mobile communication network coverage extends to 97 per cent of the world's population, and at least 93 per cent have access to broadband services, 3.6 billion people remain unable to access the benefits of globally deployed communication and information technologies. Only about half (53 per cent) of the world's population actually uses mobile communication networks, highlighting a significant digital divide.
Information and communication technology (ICT) services proved indispensable during the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating remote consultations, financial aid, and education. This context underscores the critical importance of promoting user-oriented e-services on communication networks.
This output report, developed in response to ITU-D Question 2/2 for the 2022-2025 study period, examines how emerging and enabling technologies accelerate digital transformation. It details the practical adoption of e-services across crucial sectors, including e-health, e-education, and e-government. By focusing on user-oriented applications and synthesizing national strategies and good practice models, the report offers valuable insights to enhance global connectivity efforts.
