Digital innovation profile Oman

This Digital Innovation Profile, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) of the Sultanate of Oman, aims to accurately assess the country's digital ecosystem capacity and maturity to help Oman and its stakeholders navigate the digital innovation landscape. The aim is to help Oman to continue building new capabilities for a competitive, sustainable, and ICT-enabled economy that accelerates the development of the digital economy toward achieving Oman's vision.

The pandemic has highlighted the indispensable role of digital technologies for communicating, learning, working, doing business, and interacting with the society and economy. However, there are still barriers to connectivity, including affordability concerns. Digital innovations are necessary to overcome these hurdles. This report utilizes the ITU ICT-centric innovation ecosystems approach to highlight good practices that can be adopted throughout the region to close the digital innovation divide.

Innovation is at the core of sustainable development and inclusive digital transformation. Digital innovation helps create jobs, improve services, strengthen economic growth, and foster a knowledge-sharing society. Under the framework of the ITU Regional Initiative for Europe on "Information and communication technology-centric innovation ecosystems", this regional report provides a comparative analysis of European countries using existing international rankings on ICTs, innovation and entrepreneurship. It also highlights various good practices and policies in the European region that can inform decisive actions in nurturing entrepreneurship-driven innovation.

The Americas region is facing different realities regarding the evolution of innovation performances, coupled with some significant challenges: brain drain, insufficient resources, lack of adequate training and education in ICT-centric innovation and - in some cases- insufficient infrastructure. At the same time, the region has many good practices and examples tackling and overcoming those challenges that can be used to accelerate digital transformation and serve as a basis for better policies in countries where gaps have been identified.

ICT-centric innovation ecosystem country review: Republic of Moldova

Moldova identifies itself among countries with a strong focus on enhancing the growth of the IT industry and positively expanding its potential. This report provides a snapshot of challenges and opportunities currently faced by stakeholders, and is complemented by seven key recommendations based on the needs analysis. These specific policies, programmes, or flagship projects recommendations will serve as a reference tool to help guide and support innovation with aim to make Moldova attractive as a potential hub for emerging technologies. These new approaches to policy-making became the basis for the new Strategy for fostering the digital innovation ecosystem currently being developed in the country.
