World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS)


The World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) is the key global forum to discuss telecommunication/ICT measurement issues. The Symposium takes place annually and is targeted at those responsible for ICT statistics in relevant ministries, regulatory agencies, national statistical offices, telecommunication operating companies, as well as experts in the subject of information society measurement.

Expert Group Meetings

ITU develops international standards on ICT statistics through its Expert Groups which are open to the ITU membership and to experts in the field of ICT statistics. The outcomes of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) and the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH) are submitted to WTIS for adoption.

Technical trainings and workshops

ITU assists developing countries in the production and dissemination of ICT data. Support is provided through technical trainings, and national and regional workshops for national agencies in charge of producing ICT data. Guided by ITU experts, countries exchange experiences and discuss methodologies, definitions, survey vehicles and other matters related to the collection of ICT statistics.



Other events

ITU, in close cooperation with international and regional organizations, regularly organizes and participates in ICT measurement events. ITU is a key partner in the UN Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA), helps track the Millennium Development Goals, and as a key partner of the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development, organizes events to follow up on the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
