Be He@lthy, Be Mobile supports countries and governments by providing technical expertise to integrate mobile health interventions in their national health systems and sustainably scale at the national level. Central tools in this are the mHealth handbooks, which consolidate all relevant information and background necessary: how to set up and run programmes, how to deliver a desired health impact at scale, and how to integrate mHealth with non-digital health services – presenting it in the form of plug-and-play, ready-to-use options for partners.
The following global mHealth handbooks are available:
-
Process – Each handbook is developed collaboratively by WHO and ITU with contributions from informal expert groups with expertise in the relevant disease or intervention area, and based on the best available evidence from literature, experience and expert research. Technology is important – but so are people. Be He@lthy, Be Mobile handbooks provide balance through a human-centered design approach, which means user needs, limitations and context are given extensive attention at each stage of the product-development process.
Content and Structure – A typical handbook includes information and resources to assist in programme design operational aspects of the implementation, expert validated SMS content libraries, case studies, lessons learnt and other technical tools and resources for effective replication and scaling-up of mobile health programmes. In this, they cover five main areas, namely: (i) Operations management, (ii) Content development and adaptation, (iii) Promotion and user recruitment, (iv) Technology specifications, (v) Monitoring and evaluation.
Audience – Handbooks are designed specifically for countries who are interested in deploying a national mHealth programme at scale, and who are interested in which implementation strategies may achieve maximum impact.
External parties seeking to understand the components of implementing mHealth projects may also find value in using the handbooks.
