ITU Sub-Regional Workshop on the Role of Telecommunications/ICT in Disaster Management for the Central African Region, 30th May-1st June 2007, Yaoundé Cameroon.

The purpose of this event is to bring together humanitarian stakeholders who will contribute to discussions that will revolve around the use of telecommunications/ICT resources before, during, and after disasters. Participants will map out concrete strategies and adopted practical measures aimed at giving telecommunications/ICT a central role in disaster management, i.e. early warning, preparedness, relief/response, and reconstruction. Other key issues to be covered include: policy, regulation, technology, finance, and the general development and deployment of last-mile communications systems.

This event for the southern and eastern Africa regions, brought together officials from government ministries, regulatory authorities, the private sector, United Nations Agencies, and Non-Governmental Organizations.
