The workshop “Space communications activities in today's world: opportunities, innovations and future” took place in Almaty (Kazakhstan) on 1 February 2025, as part of the Digital Almaty – 2025 forum and exhibition.
The event was organised by Intersputnik in cooperation with the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radiocommunication Bureau and the ITU Regional Office for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The workshop was dedicated to satellite communications regulatory issues and aimed at improving the qualifications of employees from various agencies dealing with radio frequency regulation in the countries of the Caspian region and Central Asia. The seminar attendees included representatives of telecom ministries, radio frequency authorities, satellite operators and service providers of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other countries in the Central Asia region. The workshop was hosted by the International Information Technology University – a leading ICT education institution in Kazakhstan.
Zhaksylyk Ibragimov, Deputy Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ksenia Drozdova, Director General of Intersputnik, Mario Maniewicz, Radiocommunication Bureau Director, and Natalia Mochu, ITU Regional Director for CIS Region, welcomed the workshop attendees.
The event was held in a face-to-face format and included three main sessions: international cooperation; issues of regulating the use of radio frequency spectrum in satellite communication and broadcasting networks and industry development trends; exchange of experience and best global practices.
One of the main topics of the workshop was a discussion of ITU initiatives to provide all countries with fair and equitable access to limited orbit and frequency resources. The discussions also touched upon such relevant topics as regulation of non-geostationary satellite communications systems, and activities for protection of the interests of satellite market players at the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027.
