Dar es salaam, Tanzania, 2016, April 30

Apps and Girls Celebrated Girls in ICT Day by organizing a mobile App workshop for girls . We had 4 graduates and 36 girls from 6 different secondary schools; Kisutu Girls Secondary School, Kibasila High School, Benjamin Secondary School, Jangwani Girls Secondary School, Dar es Salaam Secondary School, MontFot Secondary School. These girls were divided into 5 teams for the duration of the workshop.

The trainings were conducted by our Star Mentees:

  • Winniy G. Msamba the 17 year old  founder of FanikishaMama & GuideMe App
  • Fatma Abbas, also 17, and founder of MatokeoLive
  • Asha Abbas,  aged 17 and founder of Aura Teens
  • Modesta Joseph  the 16 year old founder of Our Cries
  • Belinda Bonnie Baraka, also 16, and founder of BITO Market, and,
  • Necta Richard Mwitory aged 16, and our 2016 Ambassador founder of Outpeak .

They taught and guided the girls on how to use App Inventor to develop a mobile App, as well as inspiring them to be tech drivers in their respective communities.

The girls learnt how to develop a simple mobile app using Mit App inventor and surprisingly they came up with ideas of real Applications. They will continue to build thier mobile app in their respective teams while being mentored by their trainers who are our star mentees.
