The second „Girls in ICT“ day in Iceland was celebrated last April at Reykjavik University.
The aim of the day was to raise the girls´ interest in the numerous possibilities presented by technology education and careers in technology. The project was a collaboration between Reykjavik University, Ský and Samtök iðnaðarins.
100 girls from four different secondary schools were invited to workshops at the University and to visit to companies in the Reykjavik area. The girls had selected the workshops that most interested them beforehand. The workshops were held in RU and taught by the school´s professors. Topics were web developing and programming, 3D printing and image analysis.
With the workshops completed, the girls went to four different technology companies: Meniga, Tempo, Betware and Mentor. These companies all operate in the field of information technology. The staff greeted them and gave them an insight into the activities and opportunities available in these companies and the industry.
