In Memoriam:
Chris van Diepenbeek (1947–2026)
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Chris van
Diepenbeek on 5 June 2026 at the age of 79.
Chris was a respected engineer whose career was marked by
professionalism, technical expertise, and a commitment to
international cooperation in radiocommunications. Throughout his
work, he earned the esteem of colleagues and friends alike for his
knowledge, integrity, and willingness to assist others.
Those who had the privilege of working with Chris will remember not
only his technical contributions, but also his kindness, good
humour, and thoughtful approach to both professional and personal
relationships.
Chris is survived by his wife Marieke, his children Bernard and
Anke, and his grandchildren.
The ITU radiocommunication community extends its sincere condolences
to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. He will be
remembered with gratitude and affection by all who knew him.
“It has never, never been so dark, but it always becomes light
again.”
