The Tunis Agenda called for periodic reviews of progress in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). In A/RES/70/125, adopted in 2015 at the conclusion of the WSIS+10 Review, the United Nations General Assembly called for a further review of WSIS implementation in 2025.

In response to that mandate, the international community completed the WSIS+20 Review in 2025, marking two decades of collective efforts to build a people‑centred, inclusive, and development‑oriented information society. The review assessed progress since 2015, identified persistent and emerging challenges, and examined how the WSIS vision continued to guide global digital development in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The WSIS+20 Review culminated in a High‑Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in 2025 the outcomes of which were adopted a resolution titled “Outcome document of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society” (A/RES/80/173). With this adoption, the Assembly reaffirmed commitment to the vision of the Summit to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented information society, where everyone can create, access, utilize and share information and knowledge.

Outcome Document (A/RES/80/173)
