TRAININGS ON THE BASICS OF AI FOR CHILDREN WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS HELD IN THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

In 2025, the ITU Regional Office continued to promote child online safety in the Republic of Armenia.From October 20 to 21, 2025, in Minsk, Republic of Belarus, the training "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education by Children with Hearing Impairments" was held, organized by the Belarusian State Academy of Communications in cooperation with the Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union for the CIS and with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus.

The main goal of the training was to develop the competencies necessary for the effective use of AI technologies in the educational process and daily life of children with hearing impairments.

The training was attended by 36 students from 6 special schools and colleges for the hearing impaired education institutions:

  • Special School No. 13 of Minsk 
  • Special School No. 14 of Minsk 
  • Secondary School No. 91 of Minsk named after Jose Marti 
  • Zhdanovichi Special Boarding School 
  • Minsk State College of Digital Technologies 
  • Private Educational Institution "College of Business and Law" 
​​​During the training, young people familiarized themselves with modern practices of using AI, learned how to work with modern digital tools based on AI, and gained practical skills in using AI tools to solve specific educational and communication tasks. They were assisted by experienced teachers of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications and other practicing experts in the field of AI. 

The training included three sessions. The first session - educational, was devoted to the consideration of the basic concepts and principles of AI, examples of the use of AI technologies in all spheres of life, the use of modern information and communication technologies and services as an effective tool for teaching young people with hearing impairments. 

During the second session, the training participants gained practical skills in working with AI to create text content, presentations, images and videos. The training participants were divided into 3 groups of 12-13 people, and each group studied in a separate computer class for 45 minutes. 

The third session was practical in nature and allowed the children, divided into teams of 5-7 people, to come up with and present a practical solution to the jury on how artificial intelligence can improve the lives of people with hearing impairments.
