The information session and virtual launch of the ITU online training modules on emergency telecommunications took place on 20 January 2021, from 14:30 to 16:00 (CET).
Based on the ITU Guidelines on NETPs, the Tabletop Simulation Guide, as well as on the Tampere Convention, three new online training modules have been created and designed to allow ITU to build capacity and increase knowledge on the topic of emergency telecommunications and to continue to build disaster resilience, even in times of the current pandemic.
The modules cover the development of
National Emergency Telecommunications Plans (NETPs), which are based on the
ITU Guidelines on NETPs, guidelines on organizing
tabletop simulation exercises, which was developed by ITU and the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster, and information on the
Tampere Convention and its benefits. All three online modules are self-paced and are available through the
ITU Academy Platform. ITU plans to supplement these self-paced online training modules with more extensive, instructor-led sessions in 2021.
The session was addressed to all national stakeholders involved in disaster management, including ICT government and private sector entities, national disaster management organizations, humanitarian agencies, NGOs and UN agencies.
