Girls in ICT Day Kyiv
Co-Hosted by Ukrainian Women’s Fund and WAKE: Women’s Alliance for Knowledge Exchange
Girls in ICT Day Kyiv began with the young women graduates of UWF’s First Step to Success program sharing about their community initiatives and how they use ICT (or would like to use ICT) in their work. WAKE and UWF then led a discussion about their new joint project, Tech2Empower, and to learn what ICT trainings and tools are of most interest to the young women. WAKE shared code.org’s exercises, encouraging the women to explore coding and think about how apps might be used to support their work.
Following the group discussion, speakers from Microsoft and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy talked about women in ICT fields. Later speakers from Silicon Valley companies, Symantec and Mozilla join the event via Skype to talk with the group about leveraging technology for social impact projects. Interpretation was provided during the meeting.
The young women expressed they are inspired to learn how to better leverage ICT for social good and to try the code.org lessons and exercises. We look forward to supporting them through Tech2Empower
