International Girls in ICT Day 2013 events

The second edition of the International Girls in ICT Day in Nigeria was celebrated on Thursday, April 25th, 2013 by e-Business Life Communication Limited in Collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

This year's celebration was flagged off with facility visits to Omatek Ventures Plc, one of Nigeria's leading OEM on Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 and to Huawei Technologies on Friday, April 19th, 2013.

Four schools out of the six schools invited made it to Omatek factory at Oregun Road, Lagos, they are Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, Peaklane College, Baptist Girls Academy College and Reagan Memorial Girls College; Queens College had a vehicle breakdown on the way and Grace High School could not attend as the students were still on holidays. At Omatek, the students were shown round the company's production line for Desktop computers, laptops and other accessories. The Chief   Technical Officer, who took them round the factory made them experience firsthand how laptops and desktops were assembled. I wish to mention here that a particular student from Peaklane College there and then made up her mind to study computer Science.

On Friday, the 19th April, 2013 another set of students were taken to visit to Huawei Technologies. Huawei Technologies is a communication technology infrastructure and service company. The schools that attended are Chrisland College, Lagoon Girls Sec. School, St. Francis Catholic Sec. School and Ikotun Senior Sec. School. At Huawei, the girls were taken round their exhibition room, were a staff of Huawei took them through the processes involved in making phone calls and data messages. She also took them through other product offerings such as e-Education, e-Government and Surveillance.​​​
