The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is organizing the
ITU-R Workshop on “Fixed Wireless Systems: Technology, Regulation, Implementation, and Future Development", which will take place in
Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday
21 November 2025, from
0930 to 1730 hours (CET). Remote participation will be provided for this workshop.
The objective of the workshop, which is open to the ITU Membership as well as external experts from industry, research and academia, is to provide a platform to exchange and discuss information, deliver an overview of technology, and help in the understanding of ongoing worldwide regulation, implementation, activities, and initiatives related to
fixed wireless systems (FWS), as well as their future development. Moreover, this event will provide a platform to encourage official contributions in support of, and to improve, ITU-R Study Group 5 (SG 5) deliverables, particularly the ongoing development of the new
ITU-R Handbook on Fixed Radio Systems [1].
It will bring together experts, policymakers, regulators, industry players, and academia to:
- Facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape of FWS;
- Discuss challenges, policy and regulatory frameworks, and emerging technologies;
- Share best practices and national case studies;
- Explore future trends and innovative FWS solutions;
- Encourage official contributions to support and improve ITU-R Study Group 5 (SG 5) deliverables.
The workshop is co-located with the meetings of ITU-R Study Group 5 and its Working Parties, which are scheduled from 17 November to 3 December 2025 (see Circular Letter 5/LCCE/120 and Administrative Circular CACE/1153), and will contribute to the work on fixed wireless systems and related activities in WP 5C.
Participation is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates, ITU Academia and to any individual from a country which is a member of the ITU and who wishes to contribute to the work. This also includes individuals who are members of international, regional, and national organizations. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
The Workshop will be conducted in English only.
