Session on policies and regulatory methods for broadband deployment and broadband access technologies

This session on policies and regulatory methods for broadband deployment and broadba​nd access technologies will take place at ITU Headquarters (ITU Montbrillant building, Room H) in Geneva,​​ Switzerland on Monday, 17 September 2018, from 09:30 to 17:30 prior to the ITU-D Study Group 1 Question 1/1 meeting d​e​dicated to “Strategies and policies for the deployment of broadband in developing countries”.            

Background information

The session contributes to the implementation of the Question 1/1 work plan and is addressed to representatives of ministries, regulators, telecom operators, universities and general education instituti​​​​​ons, telecommunication equipment manufacturers, research and design institutes, software developers and other interested stakeholders of the ITU Member States, Sector Members and Associates.

[9:40 - 10:30] Session 1: Global trends in broadband deployment and broadband access technologies development

Session 1 will discuss the current state of broadband development around the world, as well as key trends in broadband strategy and po​licy. 10:30 - 11:00 Coffee/tea break

[11:00 - 12:30] Session 2: Initiatives and programs that are related to broadband deployment in developing countries

Session 2 will discuss regulatory and legal mechanisms used to foster broadband development in developing countries through the implementation of different initiatives and programs.

[14:30 - 16:00] Session 3: Selecting appropriate technology for broadband deployment and financing mechanisms for broadband

Session 3 will discuss technical aspects of broadband networks design and construction, including ithe mplementation of specific projects and design methodologies of modern communication networks. This session will also discuss organizational and economic aspects related to the construction of broadband networks. 16:00 - 16:20 Coffee break

[16:20 - 17:20] Session 4: Capacity building aspects of broadband deployment, access technologies and spectrum management techniques

Session 4 will discuss capacity building aspects of broadband deployment in developing countries as well as spectrum management issues.
