In 2025, the ITU Regional Office continued to promote child online safety in the Republic of Armenia.

In support of Safer Internet Day on February 13, 2025, a round table was held on the topic "Online Safety Through the Eyes of Children." The event was organized by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, the Union of Telecommunication Operators of Armenia, and the ITU. The purpose of the round table was to present children's vision of ensuring online safety and to develop a roadmap.

Participants were children aged 7 to 16 from various schools in Yerevan and regions of Armenia, who were given the opportunity to talk about the risks they face and to propose solutions, presenting their vision of the role of parents, schools, and the government in ensuring safety in the digital environment.

The round table provided a platform for discussing issues such as:
  1. What risks do children face on the internet, and which are the most relevant?
  2. What methods should be used to prevent risks?
  3. What is the role of the state?
Following the discussion, participants prepared and signed a declaration addressed to the government. Children included the following proposals in the declaration:
  • Monthly training sessions in schools on child online safety;
  • Establishment of a hotline or website to report problems children encounter online to the relevant authorities;
  • Online safety training for parents and teachers;
  • Control or blocking of illegal content;
  • Creation of opportunities for entertainment and learning in real life to achieve a balance in the use of the online environment;
  • Organization of cybersecurity camps;
  • Creation of parental control tools;
  • Deepening cooperation with international social networks and content platforms;
  • Creation of educational content on cyber hygiene and safety in the digital environment.
Taking into account the importance and high demand from children for training sessions, interactive trainings were held in May 2025 in four schools in Armenia (Yerevan and Ararat region) for students aged 8 to 15, their teachers, and parents.

  • Online safety: recognizing fraud, phishing, and malware.
  • Privacy protection: digital identification and fraud prevention.
  • Password management: creating strong passwords and using password managers.
  • Evaluating online information: identifying reliable sources and verifying facts.
  • Digital citizenship: understanding rights and responsibilities online and offline.
