In partnership with the Government of Kazakhstan and various stakeholders, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is engaged in a comprehensive collaboration encompassing critical domains such as digital governance, cybersecurity, and educational connectivity. We are committed to bridging the digital divide by facilitating high-speed Internet access for schools. Notably, through our joint project with Kostanay Engineering and Economic University (KINEU) we have successfully created smart education ecosystem at KINEU and Kostanay region of Kazakhstan by improving network’s performance at the university and connecting 6 rural schools to university’s broadband network. Thus, since 2023 more than 1700 rural students of the Kostanay region have got access to digital and blended learning, meaningful connectivity and have been empowed with equal opportunities for education.
An illustration of this transformative initiative is the Amankaragai Secondary School in the Auliyekol district, located approximately 150 kilometers from the regional center of Kostanay, Kazakhstan. With a number of students of 728 and a faculty of 77, under the guidance of Director Lev Sergeyevich Raschetov, the school underwent a technological progress. Through participation in the ITU-led project "Creating an Educational Ecosystem in Kostanay," the school witnessed a remarkable enhancement in its material and technical infrastructure. Thanks to collaborative efforts with KINEU, the school now boasts internet access in every classroom, fostering a conducive environment for digital learning.
Director Raschetov remarked, "This collaboration has been highly beneficial for us. Our teachers have undergone digital literacy courses, enabling them to proficiently integrate technology into pedagogy. Leveraging resources provided by the ITU-KINEU project, such as Kazakhstan's StudyLand and diverse online educational platforms, we have revolutionized the learning experience for our students."
Moreover, cybersecurity and cyber hygiene have been accorded paramount importance at Amankaragai Secondary School. With support from Kazakhtelecom, robust parental control measures have been implemented, ensuring a safe online environment for students accessing the school's Wi-Fi network.
Looking ahead, the Government of Kazakhstan has identified digital governance as its top priority. Embracing Kazakhstan's aspiration to join the ITU GovStack project, we envision the country emerging as a regional hub for digital innovation in Central Asia and beyond. In 2024, Kazakhstan will host the ITU CIS Regional Development Forum, further underscoring our enduring partnership and commitment to the country's digital advancement. Explore more about
