The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in cooperation with the Digital Innovation Academy of Kyrgyzstan and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, has successfully completed a series of training sessions for secondary school computer science teachers and specialists of educational and methodological centers of schools in the regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, held from 1 February to 21 March 2024. These trainings, conducted within the framework of the ITU Global Programme on Child Online Protection and in accordance with the ITU Guidelines on Child Online Protection for Parents and Educators, were a significant step toward ensuring the safety of children in the digital environment.

Last year, ITU, together with the Academy of Digital Innovation, translated the ITU Guidelines on Child Online Protection for policymakersindustryparents and educators into Kyrgyz language.

The aim of the trainings was to improve teachers' competence in the field of information security and to develop basic skills to protect children in the online environment. Training took place in all regions of Kyrgyzstan, including Issyk-Kul, Naryn, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken, and Talas. Teachers in Chui region were trained at the Digital Innovations Academy venue.

The trainings were attended mainly by computer science teachers, allowing for quick learning of the program and the possibility of follow-up consulting. Based on the results of the initial trainings, 86 consultant-teachers were trained, and they, in turn, continued the information campaign in their schools with teachers and parents of their regions. As a result of further activities and on-site info-campaigns in the regions of Kyrgyzstan, 430 people received certificates, more than 1500 teachers and parents in the regions of the country were familiarized with the ITU Guidelines on Child Online Protection and recommendations for parents and teachers in the Kyrgyz language.

The content of the trainings covered various aspects of online safety, including determining the reliability of online resources, the problem of spam, the risks of mobile internet, as well as rules for safe communication on social networks and fraud prevention.

The topics covered provided teachers and parents with a comprehensive understanding of how to protect children from potential online risks, as well as tools and practical mechanisms to protect children from dangerous information and online threats.
