19 January 2023- I am delighted to announce the visit of Professor Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand to the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific today.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the NBTC for their generous support and contributions to the ITU Regional Office, including the relocation of the Regional Office to the current premises in March 2022 and opening of the office in October 2022.

Additionally, the NBTC and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) have been strong advocates for the Girls in ICT Day Celebrations in Thailand in the past years, which helped promote and accelerate digital inclusion and capacity development of girls and young women. With the support of the Government of Australia, ITU is also implementing a project on critical technology in the country. In the area of school connectivity, ITU has published a regional report as well as a national report on mapping unconnected schools in Thailand.

Considering the important role Thailand plays as an ITU Council Member and as the host of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) of ITU in 2025, I look forward to our strengthened cooperation and collaboration in the coming months and years.
