The differences in the economies and geographical
positioning of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Member States in the Asia and Pacific region have
contributed to a varying pace of digital transformation among them. This
impacts the socio-economic growth of the region and digital integration beyond
national boundaries. The key contributing factors to this issue are gaps in affordable broadband penetration, Digital network resilience and supporting policies and
regulatory frameworks.
Continuing the impactful outcome of the Phase 1, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Communications (MIC) of Japan further cooperating through Phase 2 in “Enhancing Digital infrastructure and affordable access to ICT services in Asia and the Pacific” . The aim of this Phase 2 is to leverage and expand the impact of the Phase 1 of the cooperation to support Development of resilient ICT infrastructure for
innovative digital services in the Asia and Pacific region.
ITU would work with selected countries in Asia and the Pacific to
- Develop Policies and regulatory frameworks supporting the enhancement of affordable broadband/internet access; and
- Enhance capabilities to support new digital services, including the dissemination of early warning communications/information.
The activities under this cooperation would also specifically support the UN's Early Warning for ALL initiative for which ITU is the pillar 3 lead.
