Background​

Regional Dialogue for Digital Transformation: Gearing up for Inclusive and Sustainable Development, provides International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Member States, Sector Members, stakeholders and partners with opportunities to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities of digital transformation and to prepare for accelerating efforts towards inclusive and sustainable development in 2022. The Dialogue also serves as a platform to discuss and understand the perspectives of policymakers, regulators, industries, and civil societies in preparation for the World Telecommunication Development Conferences (WTDCs).

The Regional Dialogue will also run in parallel with other programs including, ITU Regional Innovation Forum, TSDSI Fintech Series, TSB Digital Financial Services Audit Lab Session and other parallel tracks organised together with ​development partners.

​​Objective: ​​

    • To discuss emerging trends, challenges and opportunities of digital transformation in Asia and the Pacific
    • To accelerate efforts towards inclusive and sustainable development using digital technology in 2022, including WTDC
    • To foster and strengthen collaboration and partnership between Administration, ITU members and partners to support the achievement of the SDGs, Regional Initiatives and national development goals;
    • To build regional and national capacities, sharing of experience and networking by highlighting successful projects and/or initiatives, policies and programmes of various priority areas.​​​​

Information Session on DFAT Project “Enhancing the Development of Standards and Frameworks for Critical Technologies in Southeast Asia“

Discussion Snapshot: Speakers will present a new DFAT-funded project that aims to address the implications of the rapid development of critical technologies in Southeast Asia. Additionally, speakers will highlight complementary initiatives and the opportunities of collaborative partnership and cooperation to strengthen the fundamental frameworks, standards, policies, initiatives and enabling environment surrounding critical technologies.​

Virtual Digital Policy Convening: Cybersecurity for MSMEs

Discussion Snapshot: There will be a context-setting presentation at the beginning about the cybersecurity opportunities and risks, especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Speakers will then highlight digital policy solutions at the national, regional, and international levels that can be considered to address these concerns. They will note how these digital policies can address the main barriers to cybersecurity for MSMEs.

Financial Inclusion Global Initiative China and the ITU’s Digital Financial Services Security Lab & TSB Digital Financial Services Audit Lab Session

Discussion Snapshot: The presenters will note how Digital Financial Services (DFS) have proliferated globally, especially in the Asia-Pacific.  They will highlight how, the increasing usage of DFS can lead to inadvertent data leaks, as well as phishing, identity theft, and other risks that may cause harm to consumers. Panelists will then discuss how to ensure DFS security, including the need to understand the different categories of mobile payments, including emerging technologies like distributed ledger.

The Introduction to the Regional Hour of Code: Promoting STEM Education amongst Girls

Workshop Snapshot: The Hour of Code is a global campaign to encourage students, teachers, and parents to try a one-hour introduction to computer science with the goal of showing that anybody can learn the basics.

Speakers will highlight how gender inequality in the physical world is mirrored in the digital setting, disadvantaging girls from realizing their full potential and contributions. They will note that there is a gender gap in the Asia-Pacific region is still lagging behind the world's average. 

Additionally, there will be a linked session on ITU awareness Child Online Protection guidelines focusses on protection of children as a common responsibility to all relevant stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for all.
