ITU ROA SNIPPETS – Mauritius 

Dates: 15th march 2018 high level simulation of Cyber-related Crisis Scenarios for Top-level Government Officers and critical infrastructure Operators in Mauritius 

Objective: The purpose of this simulation was to raise awareness among high-level decision makers and familiarize them with the challenges of dealing with cyber-related crisis scenarios that require their involvement. Within the preparation phase focus areas for the simulation were discussed between ITU and the Government and decisions were made on which scenarios to include. The simulation focused on some of the most recent global attacks as well as specific attacks related to Mauritius (such as fake news targeting the tourism sector). 

Number of Participants: 58 ​

Results/Impact: The Simulation successfully raised awareness for Cyber risks among the high-ranking participants. It also familiarized the stakeholders with unique challenges related to decision making when under cyber-attack while facilitating open discussions with the stakeholders that include future steps in strengthening Mauritius’ ability to respond to attacks. The Permanent Secretary, who actively participated in the simulation, was encouraged to consider drafting basic cyber crisis management emergency plans for Mauritius.
