Mr. Michael Canares, Advisor, Step Up Consulting, Philippines
Mr. Canares has 23 years of experience in development work primarily in research, results-measurement, data for development, and adaptive management. He has proven expertise in developing and implementing research projects that use a combination of both quantitative and qualitative approaches and in designing data for development projects to achieve social, political, and economic outcomes.
He has worked globally, in different projects in Asia Pacific, North America, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. He is the author of the several data assessments in the Asia Pacific, including the State of Open Data in South, East, and Southeast Asia. He is also a member of the research advisory board of the Global Data Barometer. He is Step Up’s strategy advisor and currently engaged to advise on program performance and quality in water, energy, and climate in the Mekong region.
Mr. Canares is a certified public accountant and completed his masters degree in development studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is currently a Phd student on knowledge and innovation management at Bangkok University.
