GSMA Competition-Training-Session

ITU Academy - GSMA Capacity Building Taster Session on Competition Policy in
the Digital Age

Port Vila, Vanuatu
9 July 2019
(14h30-17h00)

Programme overview

Within the framework of the ITU Academy, GSMA will offer a ‘taster’ training session for policy makers and regulators on Competition policy in the ICT/mobile sector. The taster training session will take place on 9 July 2019, in Vanuatu, from 14h30 to 17h00.

The session will be an introduction to the topic, based on content from the UK Telecoms Academy-accredited two-day course, Competition Policy in the Digital Age, which will be offered as an online course to policy makers and regulators through the ITU Academy later in 2019.

Delivered by a GSMA Competition Law expert trainer, the taster session will address several issues:
• The application of competition law as it applies to the telecommunications sector, especially abuse of dominance and merger control.
• The interaction between competition law and regulation, especially Significant Market Power (regulation)/Dominance (competition law).
• The treatment of the telecommunications sector in regulation and competition law with the situation in the wider communications ecosystem.

The training session will be delivered in English only and is intended for non executive participants from regulatory authorities and ICT ministries.
