ITU regional workshop on "Strengthening capacities in international Internet governance"

The ITU regional workshop on “Strengthening capacities in international Internet governance” was held in Brasilia, Brazil, from 14 to 16 August 2017. The workshop was organised by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with DiploFoundation, and hosted by the National Telecommunications Agency of Brazil (ANATEL).

The objective of the workshop was to strengthen capacities of the ITU membership in the field of international Internet governance. This corresponded to the outcomes of the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2014, where ITU Member States agreed that capacity building of the ITU membership in international Internet governance is one of the priority issues to be addressed by ITU’s capacity building programme, with a focus on developing and least developed countries.

This workshop was the first in a series of regional Internet governance capacity development events that ITU will organize in collaboration with other stakeholders. The experience from these workshops will feed into the further development of ITU’s capacity development and training programmes in the field of Internet governance, which are offered under the umbrella of the ITU Academy.
