ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York to brief him on the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12). Ban Ki-moon expressed his appreciation for the briefing and extended his support to ITU for its multi-stakeholder approach to dealing with telecommunications, which he notes is one of the most important, yet complex, issues facing the world today. As well, the two leaders discussed the importance of information and communication technologies as a vital component to the United Nations strategy for development as it moves beyond the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) into the post-2015 Sustainable Development era.
