Mr Mondher MAKNI

Mr Mondher MAKNI, Networks and Telecoms Director, Telnet

Mr. Mondher MAKNI has a BSc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1985 and MSc degree in Computer Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York USA in 1987. He started his career as a research engineer at “Regional Institute for Informatics and Telecommunication” (IRSIT) in Tunisia in 1988 and was in charge of promoting technical cooperation in computer network field between IRSIT and major US institutions and universities using a variety of technical assistance programs funded by US private and government agencies. Since 1989, he was in charge of a project to connect Tunisia to the major US based academic and research networks (Internet and BITNET).

In March 1991, Tunisia had established full IP connectivity with the Internet and was hence the first country in Africa and Middle East to get a fully IP connected Internet node since 1991. This project was conducted with collaboration with National Science Foundation (NSF) in USA and INRIA research center in France. In addition, Mondher MAKNI worked as an IT and Telecommunication consultant in Africa and Middle East for major international agencies (WorldBank, UN-ECA, USAID, UNDP, AFDB) and for major international telecommunication manufacturing companies and global telecommunications carriers. He has field experience in more than 20 African and Middle East countries providing IT and Telecommunication technical assistance and consultancy to private sector and government agencies in those countries.

Since 1996, he joined Telnet Group in Tunisia (www.groupe-telnet.net) and started DataBox (www.databox.com.tn) as a leading system and network integrator in Tunisia. He is the Managing Director of DataBox, a Telnet Group affiliated company, and also the as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Telnet Group.

Acting as the CMO of Telnet Group, Mondher MAKNI mission is to promote Telnet skills and expertise as well as product engineering development capabilities worldwide using Telnet Group network of global presence offices in North America, Europe, North Africa and Middle East. Other responsibilities within Telnet Group include developing strategies and work plan technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills of Telnet new recruits and Telnet senior technical staff.

Mondher MAKNI is a member of many IT and telecommunications associations and forums and he speaks fluent Arabic, French and English.
