BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin took part in the opening ceremony of the 5G Techritory's ''Forum Day''. She expressed ITU's pleasure in working closely with the Government of Latvia to support the 5G Techritory, which has already built a strong reputation for knowledge-sharing and partnership-building across Europe's burgeoning 5G ecosystem.
Ms Bogdan-Martin noted that as was the case for 3G, and then 4G, ''there is undoubtedly still much work to do to create the optimal conditions for 5G to thrive and realize its full potential in delivering concrete value to society.''
Success in realizing this goal involves leaving no space for the creation of new divides that privilege a few 'digitally-empowered' over many 'digitally-excluded'. She expressed ITU's commitment to strengthen collaboration with countries in the region in this regard.
''Our challenge now is to ensure that an enabling regional regulatory environment sustains strong 5G deployment, so that the benefits of cutting-edge connectivity can be leveraged by all, and for all,'' said Ms Bogdan-Martin.
