Workshop on “National Emergency Telecommunication Plan for the efficient disaster risk management in Georgia”

The National workshop on "National Emergency Telecommunication Plan for Efficient Disaster Risk Management in Georgia" is organized on February 13, 2024, by the ITU Office for Europe and hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Held within the framework of the ITU Regional Initiative for Europe on Digital Transformation for Resilience, this workshop is part of the technical support provided by ITU to the Government of Georgia, offering high-level advice for developing a National Emergency Telecommunications Plan and an Early Warning System for Georgia.

The development of the National Emergency Telecommunication Plan aims to establish a strategy to enable and ensure communication availability during the four phases of the disaster management cycle: Mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. In particular, the plan will guide the actions of the telecom/ICT sector to provide effective support and improve coordination between the different agents involved in Disaster Risk Management in Georgia. It also aims to strengthen telecom/ICTs in the country so that relevant actors in this sector can appropriately support efforts to mitigate disaster risk and be prepared for future emergencies.

This workshop will bring together key national stakeholders to ensure proper coordination at the national level of the draft National Emergency Telecommunication Plan. It will also prepare institutions for synchronized efforts in further operationalizing the Plan.
