ITU organized "Online Workshop on ICTs Tabletop Exercises, Common Alerting
Protocol (CAP) and Tampere Convention for Disaster Management in the Arab
Region", 28-29 Oct. 2020 (14:00-17:00) pm Cairo time. The workshop was delivered in English only. In the
face of strong natural hazards and pandemics, such as the global COVID-19, and
as in any other emergency, the speed and efficiency of a response is
proportional to the level of preparedness. To help countries be better prepared
for disaster response, ITU is developing this event that provides the
opportunity to learn how to increase resilience, improve national coordination
for disaster management among different stakeholders and deliver early warnings
to communities at risk in a timely manner.
This 2-days online workshop highlighted the benefits of using the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), which is a standard for exchanging
all-hazard emergency alerts and public warnings over all kinds of ICT networks,
provide an opportunity to learn the advantages of developing Table-Top exercises, and raise awareness on the
importance of the Tampere Convention.
This online workshop targeted policy makers from
ministries of ICTs, ICTs regulators, disaster management organizations, red
crescent and red cross organizations, private sector entities, United Nations
agencies, non-governmental organizations and other participants from humanitarian organizations, as well as academic
institutions and media.
