Mr. Hassan Mohammed Yakubu

Hassan Yakubu is an architect, spatial planner and researcher at the School of Architecture, Planning and Design, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. His work lies at the intersection of Infrastructure and Science and Technology Studies (STS) and climate urbanism. Specifically, he is developing a line of research exploring heterogeneous infrastructure configurations of enclave urbanism and the implications for a transition to sustainability in developing African cities.

His previous research engaged with sustainability within slum resettlement progra
mmes exploring and extending the “site and services” approach at Old Fadama at the heart of Accra, Ghana. Thereafter, he investigated financing mechanisms of such urban development schemes via public-private partnerships combining a critical policy transfer and a new public management lense.

Hassan holds an MPhil. in Planning from the University of Cambridge, UK where he was a Commonwealth Shared Scholar and an Architecture Diploma from the National School of Architecture-Rabat, Morocco where he was a Ghana-Morocco Governments’ Scholar. He has previously practised as an architect in Rabat with Atelier Sens-Espace and Accra, Ghana with Mawums Ltd, Incept Architectural Consult. He is a co-founder and head of design research at Atelier VI Design and Build, a multidisciplinary design practice based out of Accra. ​​
