WEEE Policy Support for Uzbekistan

​The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection (SCRUEEP) and Ministry for Development of Information, Technologies and Communication (MITC), is currently supporting the Government in the development of e-waste policy and regulation.

As part of the process, the partnership has prepared four technical reports to understand the landscape and map the best way forward :

• ​Proposals to the solid waste management strategy and the law on waste of the Republic of Uzbekistan in terms of implementation of extended obligations of producers. This document represents proposals for amendments and additions to the Strategy for the Management of Solid Domestic Waste in the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2019-2028, as well as the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Waste".
• Recommendations for improvement e-waste management in Republic of Uzbekistan. The recommendations describe the steps that are necessary to build an e-waste management system in the country, including recommendations from international experience, the current situation in Uzbekistan and suggestions for improvement within each step.
• Roadmap for the Implementation of EPR in Republic of Uzbekistan. The document considers the best international experience and existing conditions in the Republic of Uzbekistan, to propose two schemes for implementing the EPR mec​hanism. The proposed schemes will allow businesses to fulfill their obligations for the separate collection and disposal of WEEE, and the Republic of Uzbekistan as a whole to increase the targets for the collection and disposal of waste.
• National review of the current situation on electronic waste in the Republic of Uzbekist​an. The report reviews the current situation on the management of WEEE in Uzbekistan from the point of view of the various stages of the waste life cycle and the stakeholders involved.
