ITU’s Youth Incentive Scheme “YIS”
In the framework of ITU-D Special Initiative “Children and Youth” an internship project has been created allowing recent young graduates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs), developing countries and countries in transition to work with the ITU Development Sector for a minimum of three months. This project aims to contribute to the challenges faced by these youth in integrating into the working environment and provides professional development opportunities.
At least two young graduates per year acquire experience by working on projects, producing case studies and analyzing data, while being mentored by ITU staff either at Headquarters or in the ITU Field Offices. For further information see URL: (http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/youth/YouthIncentiveScheme/index.html)
The ITU-D has also invited its Members share their knowledge and know-how by providing internships opportunities for future young experts in ICTs to enable them to gain practical experience within their company/organisation. ITU-D Sector Member Alcatel-Lucent (France) has put in place over 100 internships since 2006. However, the demand is still high with respect to the offers.
ITU encourages companies and organizations to provide us with information about their internship opportunities so that ITU can post this information on its website and count these companies and organizations as our partners. ITU encourages potential partners with offices in developing countries to give priority to local graduates to minimize costs. The conditions of recruitment, however, are set by the companies and organisations joining this ITU activity.
