ITU World Telecommunication Policy Forum set to open in Lisbon

What: World Telecommunication Policy Forum (WTPF) & Strategic Dialogue on ICTs: "Confronting the Crisis"
When: 21-24 April, 2009
Where: Lisboa Congress Centre, Lisbon, Portugal
Why: Forum to focus on key policy issues driving the current ICT environment that will guide ongoing global ICT policies, regulatory and standardization efforts worldwide:
  • implications of the financial crisis in the ICT sector
  • Internet-related public policy matters
  • implications of the advent of NGNs and advanced broadband access
  • ICT and the environment
  • strategies for creating confidence and security in the use of ICTs
  • capacity building in support of the adoption of IPV6
  • international telecommunication regulations (ITRs)
  • The high-level strategic dialogue on ‘Confronting the Crisis’ will bring together leaders from government and industry to address the problems facing vendors, operators and governments. The discussion seeks to formulate proactive strategies to help the ICT sector weather the economic storm as well as leverage the power of ICTs to accelerate recovery in other sectors.

    Who: Participants include policy makers, industry leaders and analysts. Key Strategic Dialogue sessions will be moderated by renowned TV anchor Stephen Cole: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOfg6dq-8Ic.

    Attendance at WTPF-2009 is free of charge and open to:

  • ITU Member States and Sector Members
  • organizations admitted as observers to ITU conferences and meetings
  • accredited media representatives
  • the general public
  • Media information
    • A press conference will take place in Lisbon on 22 April on key issues to be addressed by the meeting and the strategic dialogue.
    • While access to working sessions will be restricted, plenary sessions will be open. Accredited Press will have access to the Media Centre with online facilities and work stations as well as Press conferences and interview rooms.
    • The Strategic Dialogue on 21 April will be televised and webcast live
    Media accreditation WTPF-09 will be open to media. Accreditation is compulsory.

    Pre-registered journalists will be requested to present their confirmation letter, together with their passport or ID card to receive an official WTPF-09 Media badge.

    Unannounced journalists will be required to undergo the full accreditation process. Please ensure you have available the necessary supporting documentation.
