Press conference with Presidents of Burkina Faso and Rwanda

What: High-level meeting on Climate Change and ICTs and Cybersecurity: Press conference
When: 12 November 2008 at 11 am
Where: ITU Headquarters, Place des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland
Why: Climate Change:

1. Combating Climate Change through information and communication technologies (ICT)
2. Adapting to Climate Change: The Role of Emergency Telecommunications


1. Managing cyberthreats through harmonized policies and organizational structures
2. Addressing the technical and legal challenges of the borderless nature of cybercrime
3. Protect children online: New ITU initiative to safeguard the most vulnerable users of the Internet
4. ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda: Towards an International Roadmap

  • President of Rwanda H.E. Mr Paul Kagame
  • ITU Secretary-General, Dr Hamadoun Touré

Some 25 Ministers and leading policy makers, regulators and UN agencies will attend. See programme:

  • High-level Presidential discussion: 10 am in ITU Room B. Video message from UN Secretary-General Mr Ban Ki-moon. The session is open to the Press.
  • The Press conference: 11 am in Room A.
  • Press lunch: 15th Floor ITU Satellite Restaurant at 12:30 pm. RSVP:
  • Media arrangements:

    UN Press accreditation is valid. Others must seek accreditation at (subject: HLS). The opening ceremony and Presidential discussion session is open to the Press. Other sessions are closed. Interviews can be arranged on 12 and 13 November.

    Eurovision will be the Host Broadcaster for this meeting, working closely with ITU to provide:

    • Stand-up position for Live or pre-recorded TV interviews

    • Tape playout in multiple formats

    • Uplinking and connectivity to the Eurovision Global Network

    • Distribution of highlights of the meeting by Eurovision World Feed

    • Distribution of highlights of the meeting with cassettes on-site
