Intel CEO Andy Grove to unveil new interactive software
applications at TELECOM 95
Geneva, 22 September 1995 — Dr Andrew S. Grove, President and CEO of
Intel Corporation, will use the latest in computer and communications technology
to show how personal computers will open the door to a host of new interactive
applications during the Opening Ceremony of TELECOM 95.
Dr Grove is one of the keynote speakers at the event, which is held every four
years in Geneva. The Opening Ceremony, which is open to invited international
guests and the press, will be held on Tuesday, October 3 from 10:00 to 12:30 at
the newly-constructed Geneva Arena. This year, TELECOM is expected to attract
crowds of over 133,000, who will come to see the latest in telecommunications
and information technology from the world's leading suppliers.
Dr Grove is acknowledged as one of the pioneering figures in the computer
industry. Since Intel was founded in 1968, it has become a leading manufacturer
of computer chips, and is now aggressively moving into the new markets opening
up as a result of the rapid increase in the computing power of the PC and its
increasingly use of telecommunications technology.
A year in the making, Dr Grove's multimedia presentation at TELECOM features
spectacular futuristic staging, and shows how the telephone and the PC together
will soon change the way we work, play and communicate with one another. It will
involve live communications links to Africa and Japan, and was developed with
the assistance of several of the world's leading telecommunications and computer
companies.
Other speakers at the Opening Ceremony are Nelson Mandela, President of South
Africa, Jacques Santer, President of the European Union, Kaspar Villiger,
President of the Swiss Confederation, Olivier Vodoz, President du Conseil d'Etat
de la Republique et du Canton de Genève, and Dr Pekka Tarjanne,
Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union.
