The Continua Design Guidelines (CDG) define a framework for the interoperability of personal connected health data and devices. Interoperability Design Guidelines for Personal Health Systems: Services Interface: FHIR Observation Upload for Trial Implementation defines the guidelines for uploading measurements from a personal health gateway to a health and fitness service. The report analyzes several scenarios and use cases to show how patient health information can be stored safely and how patient identities can be managed effectively. One scenario deals with communicating a “Logical ID” to a patient resource. Another scenario illustrates how a patient designator can be used to establish patient identity. A third shows the patient designator as generated by the FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource) on the health and fitness service. The report recommends normative guidelines for measuring uploads and reporting patient information.
