Terms & Conditions

The photo exhibition Not a woman’s job? (the “Exhibition”) is organized by the Perception Change Project at the United Nations Office at Geneva with the participation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research and the International Telecommunication Union (the “Organizers”).

The Organizers are inviting submissions of photos that feature the achievement and stories of women (minimum 18 years old) who have challenged gender stereotypes and overcome barriers in the field of science and technology.

By submitting photo entries (the “Submission”) to the Exhibition, the participant hereby warrants that all information submitted is true, current and complete. The participant is responsible for keeping such information up to date.

The Submission is open to all individuals that are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. It is also open to corporate entities.

By entering the Submission, the participant accepts the present terms and conditions.

The participant hereby acknowledges that participation in the Submission is free of charge and does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.

The Organizers do not provide the equipment or technical/communication infrastructure necessary to participate in the Submission.

All Submissions must be submitted in English.

Submissions, regardless of categories, must not: (a) violate the intellectual property rights of third parties; (b) be illegal under applicable national laws and international law; and (c) depict or incite hatred, defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten a specific person or social group, incite violence, or conflict or otherwise violate the legal rights of third parties (including those of privacy and publicity).

Submissions should not be sexually explicit or suggestive, unnecessarily violent, or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional, or age group, profane or pornographic, or contain elements of nudity. They also should not promote alcohol, drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous, or any political agenda of message. They should not be obscene or offensive, endorse any form of hate or hate speech, defame, misrepresent, or contain disparaging remarks about other people or organizations.

Material specifications

The Organizers shall consider only those submissions that fulfil the following requirements:

  1. Each participant may submit a maximum of 2 Submissions (collectively, the “Photos”).
  2. To submit Photos to the Exhibition – all entries must be submitted via the submission form on the ITU website.
  3. The names of the files to be submitted should be as follows: Photographer-First-LastName-Country-photo1.jpg
  4. Photos should be accompanied by a short caption in English. This can include a brief bio of the woman, or any information highlighting her impact in the field of science and technology. Please make sure the text does not exceed 60 words. You can check the length here: https://www.charactercountonline.com
  5. Entries will only be accepted in digital format and must not be digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way.
  6. Image files should be in high quality (300 DPI) for printing.
  7. Photos must not be watermarked.
  8. Photos may be taken with photographic cameras, with mobile phones or with drones.
  9. Subject to the foregoing, however, the Photos may have been published earlier.
  10. The Organizers have the right to exclude Photos if they do not conform to the above conditions.

Selection criteria

The selection of Photos will be based on several of the following criteria:

  1. Photos feature the achievement and stories of women who have challenged gender stereotypes and overcome barriers in the field of science and technology. Ideally, showing the women in relevant action.
  2. Submissions meet the present Terms and Conditions.
  3. Innovate approach to the composition, treatment of the subject.
  4. Artistic value.
  5. Geographical location.

Selection

The selection of Photos will be made by the Organizers. Decisions of the Organizers are final and without appeal.

Exhibition

A physical exhibition with the selected photos is scheduled to open on 2 July 2024 (date subject to confirmation) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva and on a dedicated website.

Copyright

All participants will retain the intellectual property rights on the Photos. However, by entering the Submission, each participant grants the Organizers an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive, royalty-free right and license to the Organizers, to use, communicate, demonstrate, reproduce, make available for public display and distribute the Photos for the Organizers’ marketing, promotional, informational and educational or awareness purposes, via printed or digital or online media, including the Organizers’ website and create derivative works of the Submissions (along with a name credit) in connection with the context and the promotion of the Organizers’ work.

The participant hereby represents that he/she has the legal right to grant such license to the Organizers. The Organizers will not use the Photos for commercial use or for use of third-party photo libraries.

General terms of use

All Photos, whether among the selected Photos or not, may be used to further the aims and work of the Organizers. The Photos cannot be used for advertising, marketing or in ways which are inconsistent with the Organizers’ mission. The Photos and/or related metadata will be archived in a digital asset management system (native or third-party) or on a third-party multimedia platform such as Flickr.

Data protection

In addition to the terms of the general privacy notice of ITU’s website, the following terms shall apply with respect to the collection and processing of your personal information by the Organizers:

  1. You hereby provide your consent for the processing and storage by the Organizers of all contact information submitted by you to the Organizers (hereinafter, the “Participant Data”), for the purpose of managing your participation request and for enabling and facilitating your participation in the Submission. You acknowledge that, to the extent that it is necessary, the Organizers may pass such Participant Data to third parties who assist the Organizers in the organization and management of the Exhibition, or provide Exhibition-related services on behalf of the Organizers. Prior to sharing Participant Data with third parties, the Organizers satisfy themselves that such third parties afford appropriate protection with respect to the processing of personal information.
  2. In cases where the Exhibition is hosted on a third-party platform, access and/or use of the respective platform (e.g. social media platform) may be subject to additional terms and conditions as set out by that third party, including such third party’s privacy policy.
  3. Furthermore, the Organizers may also use the Participant Data to provide participants with additional information in relation to other upcoming events of the Organizers which the Organizers reasonably believes could be of interest to a participant or his/her organization, and to carry out surveys in relation to events of the Organizers. Each participant may choose not to receive information related to events of the Organizers by unsubscribing from such newsletters by clicking on the ‘unsubscribe’ link in each newsletter.

Other conditions

  1. By their Submission, participants agree to release and hold harmless the Organizers from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liability, including but not limited to negligence and damages of any kind to persons and property, infringement of trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights arising out of or relating to their participation in the Exhibition and the contents of their Submission.
  2. The Organizers reserve the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any Submission which does not comply with the present Terms and Conditions.
  3. The Organizers are not responsible for lost, late, corrupted, mutilated or misdirected submissions, or submissions not received in time for judging (deadline for submission to ITU is 23:59 Midnight (Europe Central Time) on Wednesday, 08 May 2024.
  4. Participants in the Exhibition are not allowed to use the titles, acronyms and logos of the Organizers or other branding (e.g. logos, slogan) elements on the Photos.
  5. The Organizers shall have the right, in their sole discretion, to abbreviate, modify, suspend, cancel or terminate the Exhibition without any future obligation, by notifying the applicants via an email announcement.
  6. The Organizers reserve the right to make all final decisions. Nothing herein shall be considered to be a limitation or a waiver of the privileges and immunities of the Organizers, including ITU, which are specifically reserved.
