Courtesy visits to the Elected Officials
Ambassadors meeting with the ITU Secretary-General generally use the ITU Tower entrance to access the ITU Headquarters. The ITU Protocol team greets the Ambassador, provides any assistance as required and accompanies the Ambassador to the meeting room. A photo may be organized in the meeting room as a memento of the meeting. As an exception, no badge is required to enter ITU premises for these VIP visits to the ITU Secretary-General. Once the meeting is over, Ambassadors exit the ITU premises from the same entrance point, where their chauffeur will meet them if travelling by car.

Access to ITU and badging for Permanent Missions in Geneva
Yes. Your valid UNOG photo badge must firstly be programmed by ITU. We encourage you to do so in advance to avoid queuing at the badging desks when you come to attend an official event at ITU. Please note that you will still need to complete your online event registration.
- Programming your UNOG badge: diplomatic personnel of Permanent Missions in Geneva can programme their valid UNOG photo badge at the Security desk of the ITU Montbrillant Building entrance, 2 rue de Varembé, 1211 Geneva. The badge can then be used to enter the ITU HQ premises. The badge holder must be present as their photo will be taken at the Security desk.
- Validity: valid UNOG photo badges are programmed for a period similar to the UNOG badge validity (but with a maximum of a one year period). After this period has expired, badges must be reprogrammed.
- Access points: programmed UNOG photo badges grant access to ITU HQ premises via the following entrances:
- ITU Tower entrance (Avenue Giuseppe Motta): Open for entry Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 20:00 hours (24/7 exit)
- Montbrillant building entrance (2 rue de Varembé): Open 24/7 entry and exit
- Please note that the Varembé building entrance is exit only.
Please note that an event badge may also be required for ITU events taking place outside ITU premises (including CICG).
A location map can be found here.
If you do not have a valid badge to access ITU yet (either an event badge or a programmed UNOG badge), please note that badging desks are located at the Montbrillant Building entrance only. If you come to the Tower entrance with no valid badge, you will be advised to go to the Montbrillant entrance to proceed with your badge request.
If your valid UNOG badge has been programmed by ITU already, you will be able to access ITU HQ premises, including the ITU Montbrillant Cafeteria. The ITU Montbrillant Cafeteria is open from Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:30 hours.
If your valid UNOG badge has not yet been programmed, please follow the instructions in question 1) above.
