Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda speaking at the SDG Digital event

“We’re taking positive steps in the right direction, to build digital capacity where it can have the most impact,” President Paul Kagame of Rwanda told leaders brought together by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 17 September.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will be key to accelerate progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations, he added.

“We need a collective and coordinated approach to AI governance frameworks which protect everyone, everywhere,” he said at SDG Digital during the UN’s SDG Action Weekend in New York.
