ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Toure was honoured to meet with H.E. Alassane Ouattara , President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire; H.E. Bruno Nabagné Koné, Minister of Posts and ICTs; and H.E. Hamed Bagayoko, Minister of State, during a visit to the country to discuss ICT development issues.

While in Abidjan, Dr Touré attended the inauguration of a brand new Internet Exchange Point (CIVIX), which should greatly improve the country’s links to the rest of the world while helping to bring down the cost of access.

He was a keynote speaker at the 9th edition of the Africa Telecom People(ATP) event, which held at the Palais des congress in Abidjan on the theme of ‘What are the innovative applications after 3G?’, and he also presided over a gala awards ceremony where he was honoured to present a trophy to Tunisian Minister for ICTs H.E. Mongui Marzoug.

True to his commitment to youth issues, Dr Touré also found time to visit the Ecole Supérieure Africaine for ICTs and to chat with students on a range of topical issues.

During his visit Dr Touré was awarded the Medaille de Commandeur de la Côte d’Ivoire in the field Posts and ICTs, as well as being inducted as a Traditional Chief of Côte d’Ivoire.
