ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun I. Touré met with Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transport, Mr Geraldo Ruiz Esparza, to discuss the telecoms sector reforms of Mexican President Peña Nieto, which have just been passed by the Mexican Parliament.

Dr Touré expressed his hope that the new policy framework would benefit all Mexicans by promoting a vibrant, fast-growing telecommunications environment as well as increased broadband penetration in the country.

Touré also offered ITU support to Mexican technical and policy experts in the process of implementing reforms, referencing international best practice. ITU’s Global Symposium for Regulators, and outcome report Trends in Telecommunication Reform, are widely recognized as the global benchmarks for regulatory policy discussion and analysis.
