Chief Architect, Zenseact 

Dr. Mohammad Ali is currently Chief Architect at Zenseact where he is working with the development of a mobility platform that is capable of driving automatically. He has been in the field of active safety since 2007 and has previously been working as Technical Expert in Autonomous Driving at Volvo Cars and Product Manager at Zenuity where he was responsible for the Autonomous driving development. His research interests include, methods for safe decision making, trajectory planning with safety guarantees and verification of safety critical perception and control systems.

Head, Automotive and Autonomous Mobility, World Economic Forum

At the World Economic Forum, Michelle oversees a team and initiatives ensuring road transit is safe, clean, and inclusive.  The works spans defining what is a safe autonomous vehicle, ensuring mobility is inclusive and accelerating the uptake of cleaner mobility.  Avary is the head of the Automotive Governors, a group that meets annually in Davos, leads the Global AV Technology Council aiming to close technology governance gaps and works with governments to pilot policy frameworks. Formally, Avary was Vice President of Products and Strategy at Aeris, Director of Telematics at Toyota Motor Sales, co-founder Drive Time Metrics, founder of  founded Women in Automotive Technology, advisor to several startups, and served as an executive director for the Future of Automotive Security and Technology Research, as well as LA Auto Show’s advisory board.  Her patents for telematics technologies including Automatic Crash Notification Using Pre-recorded Messages, Cross Channel In-vehicle Media Consumption Measurement and Analysis, and Discovery Playlist Creation are recognized worldwide. Avary has several more pending patents. Avary holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Pennsylvania State University, a Masters of Art in Economics from the University of San Francisco, and studied international law and economics at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.

Maoyuan Cui

Dr.Maoyuan Cui is senior director of automated driving department, Intelligent Connected Vehicle Development Institute, China FAW Group Co.,LTD. He joined FAW in 2004, engaged in automotive electronic control software development, automotive electronic and electrical architecture design and automated driving system design. Now he is responsible for the automated driving system and product design of Red Flag brand.
Jane Doherty
Director of International Policy, Fuel​ Economy and Consumer Protection​​​, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, United States ​​(NHTSA) 

In her role, she oversees the development and implementation of federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) automotive fuel economy and efficiency standards, promotes adoption of U.S. federal motor vehicle safety standards worldwide and international harmonization of vehicle safety standards.  She also administers NHTSA’s theft prevention activities and oversees consumer programs including the Uniform Tire Quality Grading and Rating Standards (UTQGS).  Ms. Doherty brings a wealth of expertise to NHTSA, with over twenty-eight years working in international negotiations and government policy involving trade, food safety and environmental policies.  In her previous position at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Ms. Doherty served as the International Coordination Executive in the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).  She supported FSIS’ mission to enhance compliance of domestic and foreign-produced products with safety regulations and guidance. Ms. Doherty also served as the Director of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Affairs at the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the Chief Negotiator for the United States at the World Trade Organization on trade policy affecting food safety, animal and plant life and health issues.  Under her leadership, the USTR achieved groundbreaking trade agreements with Canada, the European Union, Japan and South Korea related to USDA organic equivalence arrangements, which eliminated trade barriers for organic producers while maintaining USDA’s quality standards. Prior to that, Jane was the Senior Attorney for Trade in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Special Assistant to the EPA Administrator. 
Ms. Doherty earned a Bachelor of Sciences in International Affairs and a Juris Doctorate from George Washington University.

Sr. Vice President & GM, Automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. 

Nakul Duggal serves as Sr. Vice President and General Manager, Automotive for Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. where he is responsible for Qualcomm’s automotive strategy, automotive semiconductor and software portfolio, ecosystem development, program management and customer relationships. His responsibilities include focused development expansion into the digital cockpit, smart transportation and the connected car as well as autonomous driving, oversight over product roadmap and its execution, customer focused business development, and applications engineering. Nakul has worked in Qualcomm Automotive since 2011 and has been instrumental in building the company’s automotive portfolio and global footprint. He joined Qualcomm in 1995 as an engineer focused on the company’s commercial base station and infrastructure business. Over the course of his career, he has held engineering and management positions in the development and commercialization of CDMA, UMTS and LTE technologies. He led the Open Market Handset (OMH) initiative, an industry-wide effort to ​expand CDMA device distribution into the open market. Duggal holds a BSEE degree from M.S. University, India and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. 
Guido Gluschke
Managing Director, Institute for Security and Safety (ISS), Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences

​Guido Gluschke is the managing director of the Institute for Security and Safety (ISS) at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, where he teaches in the field of cyber and nuclear security. Mr Gluschke’s is a internationally renowned expert in IT and cyber security. Serving also as the institute’s program manager on international cyber security, he is responsible for joint projects with international organisations, such as UN, IT, IAEA, OSCE or NATO. Mr. Gluschke contributes with his expertise at the WP.29 of the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), which is responsible for the development of regulations for type approvals of road/wheel vehicles. He is a member of the Energy Expert Cyber Security Platform (EECSP) of the European Commission. Mr Gluschke is an expert in cyber security in the nuclear context and a member of various working groups. Inter alia, he gave talks at the NATO HQ, NATO CCD CoE, NATO CoE DAT and worked with NATO SOF on cyber security. In addition, he was involved in NATO S&T activities, such as NATO IST-152 Research Group on Autonomous Agents for Cyber Defence.
William Gouse (Bill)
Director, Federal Program Development, SAE International, Washington, DC​.
 
Bill’s experience is in the combination of passenger and freight surface transportation planning, energy, environmental, and safety research, product and process development, and legislative and regulatory policy for Federal, state, local and international entities. He has published articles and made presentations on the subjects of emerging and developing technologies, operations, regulations, and enforcement for vehicles and impacts to the environment, energy efficiency and safety enhancements.  He has several patents for both products and processes (one project displayed in the Smithsonian Institution). He studied mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech and has taken the executive master’s program in transport emissions at the University of Leeds (UK).  He is the Co-Secretary of the United Nations ECE Working Group for Validation Methods of Automated Driving. Or, he started playing with cars and trucks when he was about a year old and has never stopped. Bill has been working on intelligent vehicles, driver assistance and automated driving systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles for over twenty years. While he was at Freightliner (the largest truck manufacturer in North America), he was the project manager for the world’s first roll stability control system – the precursor to electronic stability control which is present on virtually every late model vehicle in the USA.  He has several patents for both products and processes (one project displayed in the Smithsonian Institution). He studied mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech and has taken the executive master’s program in transport emissions at the University of Leeds (UK).  He is the Co-Secretary of the United Nations ECE Working Group for Validation Methods of Automated Driving.
Darren Handley
UK Department for Transport

Dr Darren Handley has been with the UK Department for Transport for transport for over ten years. He currently chairs the UNECE task  force on cyber security​ and runs a team in the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles which provides grants for homes and workplaces to get  electric vehicle chargepoints. He started in the department working in transport security. Then, at the start of 2016 he changed role to help   the Department push forward its agenda on cyber security in the field of connected and automated vehicles. Darren has previously  worked with the European Commission at DG MOVE, as a seconded national expert; in research and development; and at the UK  ​intellectual property office. His doctorate is in Chemistry from the University of Sussex.
Cem Hatipoglu
Associate Administrator, Vehicle Safety Research, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Dr. Cem Hatipoglu, NHTSA’s Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety Research, is responsible for the agency’s vehicle safety research activities, which are focused on achieving NHTSA’s mission of reducing fatalities and injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes. This work includes developing and conducting research on driving automation, vehicle cybersecurity, vehicle connectivity, and vehicle crash safety. Prior to his current role, Hatipoglu served as the acting associate administrator of NHTSA’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis and director of the agency’s vehicle crash avoidance and electronic controls research office. Throughout his career at NHTSA, he’s led the development, execution, and delivery of research and test programs related to vehicle safety, crash avoidance, automated driving, electronic controls, and human factors in support of agency vehicle and traffic safety programs and motor vehicle safety standards. Within the Department of Transportation, he also served as the chief of NHTSA’s electronic systems safety research division and program manager at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Earlier in his career, Hatipoglu worked as a technical and business consultant following his tenure in the private sector leading the development and deployment of electronic safety systems for heavy vehicles. Hatipoglu earned his doctorate in electrical engineering at the Ohio State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Martin Hauschild
Head of Business Line My Journey, Software based Functions and Service, BMW Group

Martin Hauschild is Head of Software Development for BMW's My Journey Business line. His team is responsible for the development of all Navigation, ADAS (Advanced driver-assistance systems), Location Based, e-Mobility and Mobility Services. In previous roles Martin has been responsible for spearheading BMW's new Urban Mobility Concepts and Technologies including the development and launch of BMW's Car Sharing Services. He started his career at BMW as research engineer in the Connected Car domain and has been strongly involved in numerous V2X projects and standardization working groups. Martin Hauschild holds a degree in Electric Engineering and Information Technology from the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen Germany. 

Andrei Iordache
Global Industry Solutions Manager, ​HERE Technologies

Andrei Iordache is Global Industry Solutions Manager at HERE Technologies, leading strategy and business development for Automated and Assisted Driving globally. In his role Andrei is working with automotive companies and Tier 1s to enhance driving experiences by harnessing the power of location data and location-based services. His background is in product strategy, advanced product planning, connected services and e-mobility, working previously for Jaguar Land Rover and KIA Motors. Andrei has graduated a leadership program in Corporate Innovation at Stanford Graduate School of Business and has a Master in Business Administration from Aarhus School of Business, Denmark. Complementing his business education, he completed a Self-driving car program Nanodegree from Udacity.
James Kuffner

Dr. James Kuffner is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Representative Director of Woven Planet Holdings, and the Chief Digital Officer and a Memb​er of the Board of Directors and Operating Officer of Toyota Motor Corporation. Dr. Kuffner also serves in executive management roles at the Woven Planet Group companies, specifically Representative Director of Woven Core, the President and Representative Director of Woven Alpha. Dr. Kuffner received a Ph.D. from the Stanford University Dept. of Computer Science Robotics Laboratory in 2000, and was a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo. He joined the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute in 2002. Dr. Kuffner was a Research Scientist and Engineering Director at Google from 2009 to 2016. He was part of the initial engineering team that built Google’s self-driving car. In 2010, he introduced the term "Cloud Robotics" to describe how network-connected robots could take advantage of distributed computation and data stored in the cloud. He was appointed head of Google’s Robotics division in 2014. He Joined the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) as CTO in 2016. He continues to serve as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, and as an Executive Advisor to TRI. ​

Matt Mackay
Senior Risk Manager, Product Cybersecurity, General Motors

Matt leads a diverse team that focuses on governance, risk, compliance and monitoring and response activities for GM’s Product Cybersecurity team. Specific responsibilities include incident response, coordinated vulnerability disclosure, cyber threat intelligence analysis, training, process refinement, OSS compliance, anomaly detection systems, and the development of IT applications that support risk-based decisions. Prior to joining GM, Matt served in the US Navy for 23 years in a variety of roles as a prior-enlisted Surface Warfare Officer, including submarine nuclear engineering and surface ship combat systems validation and deployment. Takao Onoda
Senior Director, National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory (NTSEL), Japan 

Mr. Takao Onoda is Senior Director of National Traffic Safety and Environment Laboratory (NTSEL) of Japan, supervising international affairs in the Laboratory. Before taking this post, he served as Director General of Japan Automobile Standards Internationalization Center (JASIC) which assists the Japanese government in promoting the internationalization of vehicle regulations. He has also served as Director, Type Approval and Recall Division and Director, Office of International affairs in Road Transport Bureau of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan. He has also been serving as vice-chairman of United Nation's working party on automated and connected vehicles (GRVA), chairman of a working group on validation method for automated driving (VMAD) and chairman of a working group on international vehicle certification system (IWVTA). Mr. Takao Onoda joined the Ministry of Transport, predecessor of MLIT in 1991. He received his master's degree in Engineering from Osaka Prefecture University and another master's degree in international policy from Columbia University.

Manuela has devoted her career to advancing automotive technology. She is an ambassador for the entire industry as it evolves toward highly automated features and, ultimately, self-driving cars. In addition to her role as CEO of Designated Driver, she sits on the advisory board for Udacity. She also serves as an advisory board member for Automobility LA where she pioneered the event’s Top 10 Automotive Startup Competition, shining a light on the technological innovation that is bringing smart mobility to the masses. As co-founder of Sansea Consulting, she has provided guidance to a range of automotive companies and startups. Previously, Manuela led the global marketing effort as director of business development and communications at Elektrobit, establishing the company’s worldwide reach. At Microsoft, as a global marketing manager, she supported Windows Embedded Automotive, Ford SYNC and other automotive initiatives and was recognized with the Microsoft Gold Star Award. She also served as marketing manager for both Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Manuela holds a patent in voice-activated acquisition of non-local content and has received many industry awards including the Women Worth Watching Award from Diversity Journal and she was named a top Woman in IOT Marketing from Connected World.

Jyoti Sharma

​Jyoti Sharma serves as a  Manager in the Technology, Architecture and Planning for Verizon where she is responsible for defining Verizon's Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Technology Strategy. In this role Jyoti is responsible for defining architecture and strategy for Verizon's Network, Enterprise & Consumer products and services for Transportation vertical. Jyoti has over 20 years of industry experience in technology and telecommunication roles including: Wireless Systems engineering, System performance, and new technology introduction. Currently, she's focused on Cellular V2X technology and represents Verizon in 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). Prior to her current role at Verizon, Jyoti worked at Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent and Lucent in the Wireless R&D Organization defining base band algorithms, running simulations and defining requirements for 3G/4G/5G Wireless Networks and contributing to the 3GPP standards.  Jyoti currently serves as the Chair of Women In Engineering at the IEEE North Jersey Section and has worked as an Adjunct Professor at the Fairleigh Dickinson University and the DeVry University. Russ Shields is former CEO of Navigation Technologies (later NAVTEQ, now HERE), former Chair of Ygomi, and current President and CEO of RoadDB. RoadDB offers a full in-vehicle software solution for road data and localization to be used in automated driving in series production vehicles. Mr. Shields has been involved in communications standards bodies for 40 years. He is Chair of the Collaboration on ITS Communication Standards of the ITU. He is also a member of the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board; an SAE Fellow; and a recipient of the SAE Delco Electronics ITS Award.  Mr. Shields was inducted into the inaugural class of ITS America’s ITS Hall of Fame in 2008, and was named the inaugural U.S. member of the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2019, he was named an inaugural member of the FISITA Academy of Technical Leadership. Mr. Shields has received the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in Entrepreneurship.

Joe Speed
Field CTO, ADLINK ​

Joe Speed is Field CTO at ADLINK Technology and a member of the Open Robotics ROS 2, Autoware TSC, OpenADx SC. Joe has spent his career developing and advocating open-source at organizations including Linux Foundation and IBM where he launched IBM IoT and IBM AutoLab. Joe helped make MQTT open source and open standard, convinced the automakers to adopt it. Joe is working to do the same for Autoware and ROS 2 with Eclipse Cyclone DDS and Zenoh V2X. Joe’s built a dozen advanced technology vehicles but is most proud of helping develop accessible autonomous mobility for the older adults and people with disabilities. Lately Joe is busy developing a fleet of 300 km/h self-driving racecars for Indy Autonomous Challenge and supporting #IAC2021 university racing teams with open source autonomous software stack of ROS 2, Autoware, Eclipse CycloneDDS with iceoryx and Zenoh V2X for to race head-to-head at Indy Motor Speedway on October 23rd 2021.​
Patrik Teppo
Expert, Security Architecture, Ericsson

​​Patrik is one a handful security experts in Ericsson with the main focus on security architecture including both network and implementation architecture aspect when building telco products and systems. Before this role, Patrik was driving the threat modelling/risk assessment methodology in Ericsson and was also helping different product unit with these activities. He was also driving the implementation of a new product security framework including security controls and security assurance to be done in all Ericsson products.

UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, President, FIA.


Jean Todt is President of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de L'Automobile) - the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s motoring organisations. The federation works across two key interlinked areas of activity – Sport and Mobility. In the realm of Mobility, the FIA aims to ensure that safe, affordable and clean systems of transport are available to all. He was elected to the position in October 2009 and re-elected in December 2013. He made road safety a priority of the federation through the FIA Action for Road Safety campaign, launched in 2011 in support of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The campaign is based on global advocacy for road safety, supporting action on the ground by its 250 member clubs in nearly 150 countries, building institutional and commercial partnerships as well as mobilising the motor sport community to promote road safety. 
On 29 April 2015, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Jean Todt as his first ever Special Envoy for Road Safety. Jean Todt is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society. Jean Todt began his career in 1966 as a world championship rally co-driver, before joining Peugeot as Sporting Director in 1981. In 1993, he joined Ferrari Racing, later taking responsibility for all motor sport activity for the Ferrari-Maserati Group. He was appointed General Manager of Ferrari in 2004 and at the end of 2006 became Chief Executive Officer of the company until 2008. In 2011, Jean Todt was named Grand Croix de la Légion d'Honneur, the highest honour of the French Republic. He is Chairman of the Board of the Suu Foundation, a humanitarian organization dedicated to advancing the health and education of the people of Myanmar founded by Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Peace Institute (IPI). He is also one of the Founders and the Vice-President of ICM, an institute devoted to medical research for brain and spinal cord disorders. Jean Todt was born on 25 February 1946 at Pierrefort, Cantal (France). He has one son, Nicolas, and shares his life with actress and film producer Michelle Yeoh, who is Global Road Safety Ambassador.
Joost Vantomme
Smart Mobility Director, of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA)
Joost Vantomme is the Smart Mobility Director of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), which represents the 16 major Europe-based car, van, truck and bus manufacturers. Joost is Chair of the Strategy Committee of ERTICO-ITS Europe as well as member of its Supervisory Board. He serves also as member of the Board of the European Mobility as a Service Alliance (MaaS). Furthermore, Joost was selected as member of various Commission Expert Groups, among which the Expert Group on B2G data sharing. Joost has 30 years’ experience in legal, regulatory and public affairs. He served as legal and regulatory affairs director in the telecommunications, postal, logistics and automotive sector. He had leading policy making roles in European associations such as PostEurop and FEDMA, as well as at the UN level (UPU). Joost has also been a member of the Cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Economy and director at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, an EU consultancy firm. As a frequent speaker at conferences and author of papers, he engages with stakeholders on European and international policy issues in a digital agenda context. Joost holds a Master Degree in Economic Business Law, a Master’s Degree in law and a Diploma in Teaching Law (Universities of Leuven, Poitiers and Louvain). He is fluent in Dutch, French, English and German.
David Ward
President, Towards Zero Foundation (TZF)

David Ward is President of the Towards Zero Foundation (TZF). A UK charity, promoting safe and sustainable transport. TZF hosts the Global New Car Assessment Programme, the Stop the Crash Partnership, and the Commonwealth Road Safety Initiative.  From 2001 to 2013 he was Director General of the FIA Foundation which has donated over $100 million to safe and sustainable transport projects. In 2011 he established Global NCAP promoting vehicle consumer testing programmes worldwide. From 2006 to 2015 he was Secretary of the Commission for Global Road Safety playing a leading role in the launch of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. From 2010 to 2012 he was Chairman of the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility. In 2009 he led the creation of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative in partnership with UNEP and the IEA. From 1996 to 2006 he was a Board Member of the European New Car Assessment Programme.  From 1988 to 1994 he was chief policy adviser to the late Rt. Hon. John Smith MP and previously worked for the United Nations Children’s Fund, and as a journalist.  David is 64 years old, graduated from London University in 1979 with a BA in philosophy.
Ian Yarnold
Head, International Vehicle Standards Division, Department for Transport, UK​

Ian currently leads the International Vehicle Standards Division within the UK Department for Transport. He is a mechanical engineer with many years’ experience across a varied career - encompassing heavy vehicle operation & maintenance, plus several years in the UK roadside enforcement agency - DVSA. He currently leads the development of policy on safer, cleaner and quieter road vehicles for the UK and o​versees his Government’s involvement at the United Nations in Geneva. Ian is a recognised global expert in the development of regulatory standards for road vehicles, and someone who continues to take a prominent role in international fora. He is the European vice Chairman of the UN-ECE Global Harmonisation group; chaired the UN-ECE technical experts group on accident avoidance technologies for many years, and is the co-Chair of the WP29 ITS group. During this time he has overseen the implementation of many safety systems for heavy and light vehicle applications. He led the early UK activity on autonomous vehicles, including the trials programme and publication of the review of regulations “The Pathway to Driverless Cars”. In 2017 he established the UN-ECE task-force developing the technical assessment criteria for the approval of automated vehicles when used in real-driving conditions, and led WP29’s activity to create the new GRVA experts group on vehicle automation.​​

Stellantis, Master Expert Regulation Certification Standards

Kai is one of the 30 Master Experts of Stellantis. He is responsible for Regulation Certification and Standards. Since its creation in 2016, he has been the industry spokesman of the UN Task Force on Cybersecurity and Software Updates. He joined Groupe PSA in 2001 ​and has been working in the field of vehicle regulation and certification since 2005. In 2007, he became the spokesman of the International Organisation of Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) inside the GRRF Expert Group for Brakes and Running Gear (Active Safety) of UNECE United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. He is currently the chairman of the OICA Technical Committee.​​
