ITU is part of the UN E-waste coalition which comprises 9 other United Nations entities that have committed to increase collaboration, build partnership and support Member States to address the global waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) challenge.

ITU is part of the UNIDO-GEF project on “Strengthening of National Initiatives and Enhancement of Regional Cooperation for the Environmentally Sound Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Latin American Countries. ITU developed a Case Study on the Implementation of ITU-T Standards on sustainable management of waste electrical and electronic equipment: The path to a Circular Economy in Costa Rica. ITU is currently assisting Argentina in the implementation of ITU standard, ITU-T L.1031.
