Dr. Chaesub Lee - Director, Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB), ITU

Dr. Chaesub Lee is the Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, following his election at the 2014 Plenipotentiary Conference in Busan, Republic of Korea. He took office on 1st January 2015. Dr Lee has been involved in the telecommunication and ICT standardization field for 27 years, specializing in areas such as integrated services digital networks (ISDN), global information infrastructure (GII), Internet protocol, next-generation networks (NGN), Internet protocol television (IPTV) and cloud computing. He acted as Vice-Chairman of ITU-T Study Group 13 from 2001 until 2008, becoming Chairman in 2009.

Dr. Daniele Gerundino - Director, ISO Academy

Daniele Gerundino is ISO Director of Research and Education, Acting Director of ISO Academy at the ISO Central Secretariat. He has contributed to improving ISO’s performance in many areas, such as: strategy development, identification of new fields of work in innovative areas, evaluation of the economic and social benefits of standards, cooperation with academia, computerization of ISO, and development of new services to support ISO members from developing countries.
Daniele is Doctor in Physics from the University of Milan, Italy (specialization and thesis in Quantum Field Theory).

Mr. Dennis Chew - Regional Director, IEC Asia-Pacific Regional Centre

Mr Dennis Chew has been actively involved in international and regional standardization and related work for more than 15 years. He had served as the Secretary to the Singapore National Committee of the IEC before setting up the IEC Asia-Pacific Regional Centre (IEC-APRC) in 2002. 
As Regional Director of the IEC-APRC, Dennis has been actively promoting the IEC and encouraging the use of IEC international standards and conformity assessment systems to both industry and government bodies across the Asia-Pacific region. 
Dennis has extensive knowledge and experience on standards and conformance infrastructure and developments in APEC and ASEAN, having been involved in the development and implementation of the ASEAN Harmonized Regulatory Regime for Electrical and Electronic Equipment, regional Mutual Recognition Arrangements and the regional harmonization of standards and regulatory requirements.

Ms. Alessia Magliarditi - Programme Coordinator, ITU

Alessia Magliarditi is Programme Coordinator in the Telecommunication Standardization Policy Department of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB). She is the TSB focal point for academia and coordinator of the ITU Kaleidoscope academic conferences, the main ITU interface with universities and research institutions. She previously worked as TSB Promotion Officer.
Alessia joined ITU in 2006 working in the External Affairs and Corporate Communication Division of the General Secretariat. She was in charge of external relations, liaising with governments, permanent missions, UN agencies, international organizations, ITU regional offices, and universities. Prior to joining ITU, Alessia Magliarditi worked at the ILO from 2003. She was responsible for external relations with UN agencies, social partners, NGOs and universities, encouraging them to sign partnership agreements with ILO.
Alessia holds an MA in Social Sciences from the University "La Sapienza" of Rome, and an MA in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies from "Lumsa" University of Rome. She speaks fluently English, French and Spanish.

Dr. Frederic Surre - City University of London, United Kingdom, and IEEE Standards Education

Dr. Frederic Surre is Assistant Professor at City, University of London, UK in optical system. He graduated from Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (now part of Universite de Toulouse). After the award of the PhD in 2003, he worked for Queen Mary, University of London, Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin.
One of his teaching responsibilities is to lead student design projects with a focus in transforming them into a simulated real-life product design that includes standards education.
He is a member of the IEEE Standards Education Committee and of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Standards University with responsibilities for videos and e-learning modules.

Dr. Mostafa Hashem Sherif - AT&T, United States of America

Mostafa Hashem Sherif has been with AT&T in various capacities since 1983 and he has been involved with ITU since 1987. He has a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, a M.S. in the management of technology from Stevens Institute of Technology, N.J., and is a certified project manager from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Among the books he has authored are: Protocols for Secure Electronic Commerce, CRC Press, 3rd ed. (2016), Paiements Electroniques Sécurisés, Presses Polytechniques et Universitaires Romandes, 2006, and Managing Projects in Telecommunication Services, John Wiley and Sons, 2006.

Prof. Tim Unwin - Royal Holloway University of London, United Kingdom, and UNESCO Chair in ICT for Development

Professor Tim Unwin is UNESCO Chair in ICT for Development (ICT4D) and Emeritus Professor of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London.  He was Secretary General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) from 2011-2015, and was Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission from 2009-2014. He serves on the ITU's m-Powering Development Advisory Board, the UK Department for International Development’s Digital Advisory Panel, the UN University – Computing and Society International Advisory Board, and the Steering Committee of the World Economic Forum’s Internet for All initiative, and is also Honorary Professor at Lanzhou University in China. He has written or edited 15 books and more than 200 academic papers and chapters, many of which focus on the use of technology in development practices.  His edited book Information and Communication Technologies for Development, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2009, and he has just completed a new book Reclaiming ICT4D due to be published by Oxford University Press in 2017.  He was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St George (CMG) in the Queen’s 90 birthday Honours list in 2016 for his services to the Commonwealth. 

Ms. Malavika Jayaram - Executive Director of Digital Asia Hub, Hong Kong, China

Malavika is the inaugural Executive Director of the Digital Asia Hub, Hong Kong, an independent Internet and society research hub incubated by the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University and a diverse group of academic, civil society, and private sector partners. Previously, Malavika spent 3 years as a Fellow at the Berkman Center, focused on privacy, identity, biometrics and data ethics, and was a practising lawyer for over 15 years. She spent 8 years in London, with the global law firm Allen & Overy in the Communications, Media & Technology group and as Vice President and Technology Counsel at Citigroup. While a partner at Jayaram & Jayaram in India, she was one of 10 Indian lawyers selected for The International Who's Who of Internet e-Commerce & Data Protection Lawyers directory for 2012 and 2013. In August 2013, she was voted one of India's leading lawyers - one of only 8 women to be featured in the "40 under 45" survey conducted by Law Business Research, London.
A graduate of the National Law School of India, Malavika has an LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago. She taught India's first course on information technology and law in 1997, and was Adjunct Faculty at Northwestern as part of the new Master of Science in Law program bridging STEM subjects and the law. She has been a Fellow with the Centre for Internet & Society, India, since 2009 where she helped start their privacy program. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, and has had fellowships at the University of Sydney and the Institute for Technology & Society, Rio de Janeiro. She is on the Advisory Board of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), USA.

Ms. Donna Bethea-Murphy - Senior Vice President, Global Regulatory, Inmarsat Plc., United Kingdom

Donna Bethea-Murphy is Senior Vice President of Global Regulatory Policy and Development for Inmarsat.  In this capacity she leads the company’s domestic and international regulatory policy activities.  She has been appointed to the Federal Communication Commission’s Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council and National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee, and also serves as a Board Member on the ITU Smart Sustainable Development Board and Focal Point on the ITU/UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development.
Preceding Inmarsat, she was Vice President of Regulatory for Iridium where she led all of the company's global technical regulatory activities, including those related to policy, standards, licensing, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and spectrum.  She was previously Senior Director of Spectrum Policy at PanAmSat Corporation.  Prior to joining PanAmSat, she was Director of Technology and Regulatory Affairs for AirTouch Communications, where she developed and implemented technical regulatory policy for terrestrial wireless services.  Prior to her position at AirTouch, she was responsible for terrestrial and satellite policy at the FCC.  She holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.

Dr. Reinhard Scholl - Deputy Director, Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB), ITU

Dr. Reinhard Scholl is Deputy to the Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) since September 2002. Previously he has been with Siemens in Munich, Germany and with ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). He has also served on the ICANN Board. He received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois, USA.

 

Subin Shen received the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees of engineering in computer application technology from the Southeast University (SEU), Nanjing, China. He is a professor in the School of Computer and the School of Software at the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT), China. His research interests include computer networks, telecommunication networks, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, and future networks. He is the acting editor and the main contributor of Recommendation Y.2066 “Common requirements of Internet of Things”, Recommendation Y.2068 “IoT functional framework and capabilities”, and Recommendation Y.2078 “IoT application support models” of International Telecommunication Union, Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T). He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), China Computer Federation (CCF), and China Institute of Communications (CIC).

Dr. Jun Kyun Choi - Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, Korea

Prof. Jun Kyun Choi received the B.Sc. (Eng.) from Seoul National University in electronics engineering, Seoul, Korea in 1982, and M.Sc (Eng.) and Ph.D degree in 1985 and 1988, respectively, in electronics engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
From June 1986 until December 1997, he was with the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI). In January 1998, he joined the Information and Communications University (ICU), Daejeon, Korea as Professor. At year 2009, he moves to Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) as Professor. From August 2011 to 2014, he worked for IT Convergence Center under KAIST Institute as Director. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, the executive member of The Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea (IEEK), Editor Board of Member of Korea Information Processing Society (KIPS), Life member of Korea Institute of Communication Science (KICS). His research interests are concerned with broadband network architecture and IPTV technologies particular emphasis on performance and protocol problems. Secondary interests include the international standard activities on broadband network architecture and protocol with mobility support.
Dr. Choi was an active member of ITU-T Study Group 13 as a Rapporteur or Editor from January 1993 on the ATM, MPLS, and NGN issues. He is Head of Korean Delegation (1993 - 2010) and the working group chairman of IPTV Focus Group (year 2006 – 2007). He had submitted more than 500 contributions at ITU-T and more than 50 drafts on IETF.​
