Webinar on "Smart sustainable cities and frontier technologies in Latin America”

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), together with the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Brazilian Network Information Centre (NIC.br), organized a webinar on “Smart sustainable cities and frontier technologies in Latin America" which took place on 8 December 2020 from 15h00 to 17h00 CET.

Frontier technologies have enabled cities to reimagine the way they manage urban complexities and infrastructure, from enhancing cities’ responsiveness, optimizing energy efficiency to improving access to public services. With proper guidance, frontier technologies can make cities smarter and more sustainable, and provide the opportunity for leapfrogging, accelerating the global progress towards the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. 

The webinar explored the best practices of smart sustainable city in implementing frontier technologies in Latin America.  Close attention was paid to the importance of measurement for policymaking and the role of international standards in measuring and facilitating smart sustainable cities. Finally, the webinar launched the NIC.br Sectoral Studies Publication on the theme of Smart Cities.
