ITU-T Study Group 5 (SG5) is the lead study group for studies on adapting and mitigating the effects of environmental challenges, including climate change, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Study Group also includes within its ambit opportunities for ICTs arising from a circular economy. SG5 is also the lead study group on ICT environmental aspects of electromagnetic phenomena.

FG on Environmental Efficiency for AI & other Emerging Technologies

The Focus Group on Environmental Efficiency for AI and other Emerging Technologies (FG-AI4EE) will identify the standardization needs to develop a sustainable approach to AI and other emerging technologies.

The focus group will develop technical reports and technical specifications to address the environmental efficiency, as well as water and energy consumption of emerging technologies, and provide guidance to stakeholders on how to operate these technologies in a more environmentally efficient manner to meet the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.​
 
1st FG-AI4EE meeting: 12 December 2019, Vienna, Austria

The first FG-AI4EE meeting will be held in conjunction with a Forum on Environmental Efficiency for AI and other emerging technologies on 11 December 2019 and the Meeting of the Thematic Group on the United for Smart Sustainable City Index on 13 December 2019 in Vienna, Austria.
