Network of Women for ITU-D at WTDC

During the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda, the Network of Women for ITU-D held a series of events to help promote gender equality in the work of ITU-D.

Together with members of the local Kigali community, WTDC delegates took part in the Walk2Connect walkathon. A Network of Women breakfast and luncheon were also held, which provided networking and support opportunities for women delegates who connected with each other. They noted the need to grow the Network beyond WTDC, and keep up the momentum towards gender equality in the digital development space.

Notably, delegates also worked to revise Resolution 55 on ''Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective in ITU to enhance women's empowerment through telecommunication/ICTs''. In updating the resolution, among other important aspects, the conference endorsed the continuation of the Network of Women in ITU-D and its Advisory Group, and proposed the designation of national representatives to encourage participation of women and girls in ICT, in all parts of the world.

''As technology advances quickly, we must work to ensure that women's perspectives are reflected as quickly at all levels. This means women's equal representation in digital related matters in government, the private sector, academia, or otherwise - so that they play a role in creating the policies, frameworks and strategies that are shaping tomorrow's digital landscape,'' said BDT Director Ms Bogdan-Martin.

She urged, ''Let's continue to support each other, in order to make gender equality in our field a reality.''
