BDT Director Doreen Bogdan-Martin participated in the SAMENA Telecommunications Council Leaders' Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 9 May 2022. She shared her thoughts in a panel discussion on “the 360 Degree View - Digitalisation and adjusting to New Realities".
Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Abdulhadi AbouAlmal, Director Tech Standards & Spectrum Management, UAE; Sh. Talal Said Al Mamari, CEO, Omantel, Oman; Mr. Tariq Al Awadhi, Executive Director Spectrum Affairs, TDRA, UAE; Mr. Denis Kapelyushnik, ICT Talent Program, UNESCO (IITE). The panel was moderated by Mr. Ghazi Atallah, CEO, Picacity.
Having observed that the international community has arrived at an inflection around its thinking around ICT policy, Ms Bogdan-Martin emphasized the importance of ensuring a right mix of old and new approaches towards regulation. She also outlined different strategies that policy-makers and regulators can adopt to navigate the complex process of digital transformation.
In closing, Ms Bogdan-Martin stated, ''Digital transformation represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to leverage digital technologies as powerful global equalizer of opportunity. But no-one can do this alone. That's going to mean national, regional and global collaboration on an unprecedented scale. If we get the policy approach right, everyone can be a winner.''
